SMC ( sheet moulding compound ) are obtained by blending unsaturated polyester resins with fibre glass and fillers. The mixing technique foresees a continuous mixing system, which deposits a uniform blanket of fibre glass into the machine’s conveyor belt followed by a compaction section in order to achieve a uniform wet-out product. SMC is used in hot press compression moulding for the production of large parts with high mechanical properties and excellent surface finish.

Typical applications include demanding corrosion resistant large components for automotive ( body panels, structural parts, under bonnet parts ), electrical engineering (boxes, cabinets, covers, lamp housings, low and medium voltage parts) building construction ( water tanks, panels, door skins, manhole covers, access chambers, road equipment ) and sanitairy ( sinks, bath tubes, show plates, service trays, house hold appliances ).
