UV radiation causes photooxidative degradation of many polymers, pigment and dyes when directly exposed to sunlight. During this process polymer chains are broken and free radicals are formed reducing the molecular weight causing colorfading and deterioration of mechanical properties. UV attack by sunlight can be prevented by using UV stabilizers which absorb the UV radiation and prevent the formation of free radicals. Dosing levels range from 0.1% upto 2%
